He brought a revolutionary change in social and spiritual life of people. He was a man of faith in action, whose contribution to the society in Kerala and the Catholic Church is immense. He was a visionary who initiated reforms in the Church as well as in the society. He established the first Sanskrit school for students of all castes in a predominantly caste ridden society. In 1864, when he became the Vicar General of Syrian Catholics, he ordered to start a school adjacent to every church (palli) and thus he sowed the seeds of giving free education to economically weaker sections of the society.
